Just a week after commencing the platform 19A (first platform of phase 19) of the South Pars gas field, Iran has dispatched the second platform of phase 17 to be installed and commenced by January.
Platform 19A added 14 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) to Iran’s daily gas output and 17B also would add the same amount of gas.
Iran plans to complete phases 17, 18, 19, 21 and 21 to add 100 mcm/d to the country’s gas output as compared to the last year, which stood at 735 mcm/d.
The Phase 19 will produce 56 mcm/d and other phases will produce 25 mcm/d each.
The first and the fourth sweetening units of the phase 19’s refinery came on stream in April and July this year with a total capacity of 28 mcm/d.
Meanwhile, the development project manager of phases 20-21, Alireza Ebadi, said on October 10 that the Phase 21 platform will come on stream by November 21 with a capacity to produce 28 mcm/d.
The development project manager of phases 22-24 of the gas field, Farhad Izadjoo, said the first sweetening unit of the phases will come on stream in June 2017.
The first phase of the project will become operational in November next year with the production capacity of 28 mcm/d.
The development of phases 22-24 aims to produce 56.6 mcm/d of sour gas, 75,000 barrels of condensate, 400 tons of sulfur, 2,870 tons of LPG and 2,740 tons of ethane per day.
Meanwhile, Masoud Ziari, the managing director of Petro Gohar Farasahel Kish, a contractor of South Pars development projects, said on October 8 that drilling of wells for platforms 13B and 13D will be terminated in December.
Ziari added that the company is tasked with drilling 38 wells at Phase 13 of the gas field. He noted that drilling of wells for platform 13A was accomplished in December 2014 in less than 24 months.
Drilling of wells for platform 13B is expected to be completed by mid-December, he said.
Regarding the drilling of wells for platform 13D, he anticipated that the work would be finished over the next six months.
South Pars, divided into 24 development phases in Iranian side, holds 18 trillion cubic meters of natural gas.
South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
Currently, Iran produces about 450 mcm/d of gas from this field and the figure is expected to exceed 700 mcm/d by 2021 to bring the country’s total production level to 1,260 mcm/d.
