( dpa ) - A Saudi Arabian aircraft made an emergency landing in Dhaka Tuesday after one of its engines caught fire, airport officials said.

More than 200 passengers and 16 crew were aboard when pilots noticed the fire during the approach to Dhaka international airport.

Civil aviation authorities said the pilot sought permission for an emergency landing instead of a normal touch down.

A passenger said smoke filled the cabins as the fire spread causing panic. All the passengers were evacuated with minor injuries to a few.

The aircraft was coming from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

The government has appointed a committee to investigate the accident.
