The Czech Republic will hold its elections to the European Parliament on June 5 and 6, the office of President Vaclav Klaus announced Tuesday, dpa reported.

The EU's 27-member states are free to pick their own election date according to national preference, within the limits of holding the poll between June 4 to 7.

The parliament sits in Brussels and Strasbourg for a five-year term, with a total of 736 seats up for grabs.

At the last election in 2004, the 24 seats allocated to the Czech Republic were won by candidates who now sit in six different European groupings.

The Czech Republic currently holds the rotating EU presidency.
