Turkey issues Jan. 2021 data on passenger traffic at Istanbul Airport

The new airport in Istanbul served over 1.68 million passengers in January 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

During this month, 423,107 passengers were served on domestic flights, and over 1.25 million passengers on international flights.

The ministry noted that 15,074 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul Airport in the reporting month, including 8,370 - on domestic lines, 11,074 - on international lines.

"In January 2021, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul Airport amounted to 81,258 tons, of which 6,587 accounted for domestic, and 81,258 for international flights," the ministry said.

On October 29, 2018, the opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul, in which the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Jahit Turhan took part.

Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
