A magnitude-6 earthquake jolted wide areas of north-eastern Japan on Sunday, the Meteorological Agency said, dpa reported.

No tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries, dead or damage.

The agency said the quake struck at 12:29 pm (GMT 0328) and was centred off the Miyagi prefecture at a depth of 50 kilometres.
