DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, June 25. Agricultural production in Tajikistan reached 8.557 billion somoni ($805.897 million) from January through May, which is a 6.8-percent increase compared to the same period last year at comparable prices, Trend reports.
According to the country’s statistical agency, crop production amounted to 3.248 billion somoni ($305.896 million), which is a 10.2 percent rise year-on-year. While, livestock production totaled 5.309 billion somoni ($500.001 million)—a 4.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, spring crops were sown across 202,263 hectares in Tajikistan's farms as of June 1 this year. This includes 51,383 hectares of grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize), 4,781 hectares of maize for grain, 99,060 hectares of industrial crops (including 91,621 hectares of cotton), 13,845 hectares of potatoes, 10,307 hectares of other vegetables, 52 hectares of vegetables for seeds, 6,544 hectares of food crops, and 16,290 hectares of fodder crops.
In 2023, the total value of agricultural output in Tajikistan reached 63 billion somoni ($5.767 billion). This is a nine percent increase from the previous year.
Crop output experienced a growth of 6.8 percent, reaching 43.4 billion somoni ($3.973 billion), whereas livestock production declined by 14.1 percent, amounting to 19.7 billion somoni ($1.803 billion).
