The Education Ministry has not yet decided to close the Azerbaijan International University (AIU).

"This year, the Azerbaijani government has not allowed the university to admit students. The university management should draw lessons from this decision and reform its methods," the Minister of Education, Misir Mardanov, told journalists on Sept. 9.

The minister said that the university rector and vice-rector had repeatedly been summoned to the ministry, and they were encouraged to restructure the university's work methods. "Unfortunately, their promises on this issue have remained just words," said the minister.

Mardanov said that AIU students who are studying in their second, third and fourth years are able continue their studies and receive diplomas.
