Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 9 / Trend T. Hajiyev /

The Azerbaijani State Family, Women and Children Committee plans to implement projects related to homeless children, early marriage and education next year.

"We are planning to implement projects related to solving the problems of homeless children, early marriage and education next year, together with several government organizations," Hijran Huseynova, the chairperson of the committee, told Trend.

She added that most adolescents marry young in the country's southern regions of Lankaran, Lerik, Astara, Masalli, Jalilabad, Yardimli and Bilasuvar.

"Recently, the number of early marriages decreased comparatively," she said. "But many families hide such marriages, and this prevents us from accurate conducting research."

Huseynova also noted that research is underway on family planning, and a presentation of the work will be held in late December.

A proposal to amend the family code - to increase the minimum marrying age to 18 for females - has been put forward in Azerbaijan.
