By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

There are plans to carry out construction work for the creation of new plants on the basis of the production association Garabogazsulfat in the Balkan province of Turkmenistan, Trend reports via the Vatan newspaper.

The newspaper, in turn, refers to a report submitted by Deputy Prime Minister Mammetkhan Chakiyev during a meeting of the Turkmen Government.

The article also cites the words of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that the priority direction for the development of the chemical industry is increasing the capacity of plants producing various types of fertilizers, the need for which is constantly growing throughout the world.

Earlier, it was reported that a feasibility study for the integrated development of the mineral wealth of the Caspian Kara-Bogaz-Gol (a shallow inundated depression in the northwest of the country) was developed in Turkmenistan.

The project of the chemical state concern Turkmenkhimiya envisages the construction of new workshops on the basis of Garabogazsulfat, producing anhydrous sodium sulfate, magnesium sulfate (epsomite) and magnesium chloride (bischofite). Capacity will be more than 350,000 tons of mineral raw materials per year.

For over 80 years, more than 10 types of chemical raw materials have been mined in the area. Experts believe that further comprehensive extraction of mineral resources of Kara-Bogaz-Gol will contribute to the formation of a new industrial direction - hydrometallurgy.

Kara-Bogaz-Gol is the largest deposit of sodium sulfate and other useful minerals on Earth. This is the only field in the world where, under normal natural conditions, a variety of salts crystallize on an industrial scale. Its area is 18,600 square kilometers and the length of the coastline is about 800 kilometers.
