Uzbekistan starts exporting dried fruits to Japan

Uzbekistan sent trial shipments of dried fruits such as raisins, dried apricots and prunes worth about $90,000 to Japan in 2019, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

In quantitative terms, 16 tons of Uzbek raisins, five tons of prunes and three tons of prunes were exported to Japan.

The main supplier of dried fruits of Japan in 2019 was the US, with 22,900 tons of raisins. The top list also included Turkey, Chile, Australia, South Africa and China. Uzbekistan ranked 10th, ahead of Argentina and only slightly behind Iran.

The main supplier of prunes to Japan was also the US which exported 5,300 tons in 2019. Chile supplied 200 tons, and France supplied over 100 tons. Uzbekistan ranked 5th with five tons.

Japan imports commercial quantities of dried apricots from four countries - Turkey, South Africa, China and the US. Pakistan shipped only four tons in 2019 and Uzbekistan three tons of dried apricots.

"Due to the fact that Japan is one of the most difficult markets for fruit and vegetable products in the world, we are very pleased to note the progress that Uzbekistan has made in the Japanese market," noted economist at the Investment Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Andriy Yarmak
