From August 1 to December 13, 2020, 6,739 tons of apples worth $2.9 million were exported from Georgia, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The export volume of apples for this period is 14 times higher than the export volume for the same period of 2019, and the export value increased by $2.5 million.

According to the agency, the export of apples this year was mainly carried out in the Russian Federation in the amount of 6,456 tons. In addition to the Russian Federation, exports were also carried out to Kazakhstan, Hungary, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

A large apple harvest is expected in Georgia this year - more than 120,000 tons, mainly in the Shida Kartli region.

State co-financing amounted to more than 9 million lari (about $3 million).

To facilitate the export of fruits, the necessary documentation is prepared and issued in a "single window" mode. Representatives of phytosanitary and customs services are involved in the process.

A working group has been created in the ministry, which is actively working in the field of searching and collecting information, systematizing, connecting farmers and distributors.
