Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas to recycle several tons of oil waste before 2024

Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas National Company is planning to carry out work to clean up and recycle 2.5 million tons of oil waste before 2024, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev said, Trend reports citing the press office of the Kazakh government.

During the governmental session, the minister talked about the implementation progress of roadmaps to improve the ecological situation in the country’s regions.

Thus, the Atyrau oil refinery has begun reclamation of the Tukhlaya Balka evaporation fields.

This year a new complex of treatment facilities will be put into operation in the Atyrau. Work is also underway to reconstruct the old wastewater treatment, which will be completed in 2023.

Cleaning of the Kvadrat evaporator pond will be completed in 2024. In the Aktobe region, a ferroalloy plant has launched a project for the modernization and reconstruction of workshops. As a result, emissions will decrease by 30 percent by the end of 2022.

The minister added that it is necessary to accelerate the implementation of the project to modernize CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 in the Almaty region. In turn, the regional akimat (administrative center) should carry out work on transferring public transport to gas and studying the wind regime, followed by making adjustments to the master plan.

In the Karaganda region, according to the signed memorandum, ArcelorMittal Temirtau company undertakes to reduce air emissions by 30 percent by 2025. Also, 500,000 trees will be planted around the city of Temirtau.

In the East Kazakhstan region, a 20 percent reduction in atmospheric emissions is expected according to the Kazzinc LLP memorandum. The existing solid waste landfills will also be modernized.

Elimination of the Koshkar-ata pollution has begun in the Mangystau region and is to be completed in 2023.
