90% of agriculture in Azerbaijan are produced on irrigated lands, i.e. 1.426mln ha, Trend reports quoting Ahmed Ahmedzadeh, President, Amelioration and Water Industry РћРђРћ.
Ahmedzadeh said today 130k ha of lands occupied by Armenia, and some 40k ha are frontier areas.
В"Our primary goal is water supply of these areas, which positively influences increase of agricultural production. Amelioration has a significant potential in AzerbaijanВ", - President said.
There are 189 reservoirs; 812 pump stations, over 6,500 artesian wells, 129k sprinklers in the country, total length of irrigation channels is 50,000 km. operation expenses for the year 2006 in this respect are planned in amount of AZN 65mln.
