By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Gulf Drilling Azerbaijan intends to acquire new equipment for drilling in Azerbaijan, a source in the country's oil and gas market told Trend.

“The company uses technology from China, Russia, Ukraine, and the USA. Gulf Drilling Azerbaijan is also working on the acquisition of new equipment. Currently, the company is considering price offers from China, Germany and Italy,” said a source.

Speaking about drilling, the source noted that primarily it works jointly with SOCAR at the Buzovna-Mashtaga oil field (located 20 kilometers from Baku in the north-east of the Absheron Peninsula) and the Galmaz gas field (located in the north-east east of the Kura Basin).

“Since February last year, the company began drilling wells at the Galmaz field, and since July, it started working at the Buzovna-Mashtaga field. Currently, Gulf Drilling Azerbaijan is carrying out drilling operations at the Surakhani, Balakhani and Ramana fields, the source said.

The source noted that the company is completing the drilling of a third well at the Surakhani field and is starting to drill a new well at the Balakhani field, where it carried out sidetrack drilling.

“Drilling at the Surakhani, Balakhani and Ramana oil fields is aimed at extracting the remaining oil. The same applies to the Buzovna field. And we are drilling gas injection wells at the Galmaz gas field,” the source said.

Gulf Drilling Azerbaijan, established in 2007, is a subsidiary of Gulf Drilling Supply FZE (UAE). The Azerbaijani branch of the company is engaged in drilling vertical and directional wells for the production of oil, gas and water, as well as sidetracking and overhauling of wells.
