TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 18. Uzbekistan exported 299,600 tons of onion in the amount of $61.2 million in 2023, Trend reports.
According to data from Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency, this figure represents an increase of 38.2 percent compared to the previous year (216,700 tons in 2022). At the same time, the country exported onions worth $42.4 million in 2022.
Furthermore, Uzbekistan's volume of exported onions reached 210,700 tons worth $27.8 million in 2021.
The total volume of exported onions amounted to 727,000 tons in the amount of $131.4 million from January 2021 through December 2023.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan exported 103,000 tons of onions for a total of $25.9 million from January through March 2024. Onion exports accounted for the largest volume of fruit and vegetable exports in the country.
In total, Uzbekistan exported 375,300 tons of fruit and vegetables worth $219.8 million from January through March 2024. This figure has increased by 72.4 percent (157,700 tons) compared to the same period last year (217,600 tons in January–March 2023).
Pakistan accounted for the largest volume of horticultural product exports from Uzbekistan, with a total volume of 79,100 tons worth $57.6 million. Russia ranked second with 85,500 tons of exports worth $55.1 million, followed by Kazakhstan with 86,100 tons of horticultural products exported worth $23 million from January through March 2024.
