Iran launches solar power plant in Kerman Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. A solar power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatts was put into operation in Safaya district of Kerman province in southeastern Iran on May 16, the statement of Iran's Energy Ministry said, Trend reports.

The solar power plant was constructed with a private sector investment of 3 trillion rials (about $71.4 million).

The construction of the plant, located on 15 hectares, started in 2021, and 6,000 people were employed in the construction.

The commissioning of this station will prevent the emission of 12,700 tons of carbon dioxide into the environment per year and reduce the consumption of 5.21 million cubic meters of natural gas and 4,940 cubic meters of water.

To date, 21 solar power plants with a capacity of about 136 megawatts have been put into operation in Kerman province. Construction of 136 solar power plants with a capacity of 2,030 megawatts is currently underway.

To note, the power generation capacity of all power plants in Iran (thermal, water, renewable, nuclear, etc.) currently exceeds 93,000 megawatt-hours. Thermal power plants account for 82 percent of it.
