Electricity trade between Iran and Türkiye starts - official

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. Electricity trade between Iran and Türkiye has started with 100 megawatts per day, Executive Director of Iran's Tavanir Company Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports.

According to him, the start of electricity trade between Iran and Türkiye has been highlighted by the two countries, and implementation works will be started.

Mashhadi stated that the electricity trade between Iran and Türkiye will increase to about 500 megawatts per day in a very short time.

He noted that this trade would be of great importance for the electricity consumption of the two countries during peak hours.

To note, the Executive Director of Iran's Tavanir Company, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, recently visited Türkiye with a delegation and held relevant meetings.

Meanwhile, the energy potential of all power plants in Iran (thermal, water, renewable, nuclear, etc.) is currently more than 93,000 megawatt-hours. Of these, 82 percent belong to thermal power plants.

Iran has a shortage of electricity consumption during the summer months. During those times, Iran has to import electricity from neighboring countries.
