DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, May 17. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Tajikistan to soon join the preferential climate financing of the fund for a period of 20 years, Trend reports.
According to an official source, this was stated by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva following a meeting with Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon.
The head of the IMF noted that the fund offers its members a new long-term financial instrument through the mechanism of preferential climate financing, the 'Sustainable Development Fund' with a maturity of 20 years, of which 10.5 years are a grace period.
"The fund already has 18 countries that use this tool. We really hope to quickly connect Tajikistan so that it receives low-liquidity support from the fund," she said.
Furthermore, Georgieva also drew attention to the country's excellent economic indicators, such as national growth above 8 percent, inflation of about 3 percent, and debt reduction to 27 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
Meanwhile, in March this year, the National Bank of Tajikistan announced that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would launch a program in the country to support economic policy and implement structural reforms of the economy.
It was noted that the IMF Executive Board approved a 22-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) for Tajikistan at the request of the country to consolidate economic policy and support the implementation of vital structural reforms.
