ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 17. Cargo transportation on the Kazakhstan Railways' (KTZ, national company) network amounted to 81.5 million tons from January through April 2024, Trend reports.
KTZ reports that they sent 27 million tons of cargo for export. Domestic transportation increased by 3.7 percent, reaching 54.4 million tons.
The transportation of 33.6 million tons of coal took place over a period of 4 months. Of these, 25.5 million tons go to Kazakhstani consumers. Kazakhstan exported 8.1 million tons of solid fuel.
Rail transported over 3 million tons of grain at the same time, with 2.3 million tons going to export.
In addition, from January through April 2024, transportation of oil cargo increased by 1.6 percent compared to 2023, to 6.2 million tons, ferrous metals by 6.4 percent, to 1.4 million tons, iron ore and manganese by 11 percent, up to 6.8 million tons, non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials by 15.7 percent, up to 7.8 million tons.
The export of oil cargo also increased by 15 percent, to 1.9 million tons, ferrous metals by 4 percent, to 1 million tons, chemical fertilizers by 59 percent, to 460,000 tons, iron ore and manganese by 10.9 percent, to 3.7 million tons; and construction materials cargo by 22.8 percent, up to 119,000 tons.
Meanwhile, in general, the volume of cargo transport by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 128.7 million tons from January through April 2024. This is a 4.1 percent drop from 2023.
Concurrently, the above period saw 100.8 billion ton-kilometers of rail cargo, 7.7 percent less than January–April 2023.
