The 2nd and 3rd steam units of the Sabalan Thermal Power Plant in the Ardabil Province (north-western Iran) will be put into operation next Iranian year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plant Holding Company Hamid Sardari said, Trend reports citing the Mehr news agency.
Sardari said that Sabalan Thermal Power Plant has 6 gas units and 3 steam units. The first steam unit was launched in the 11th month of last Iranian year (January 20 through February 18, 2021). In total, the electricity generation capacity of steam units will be 480 megawatt-hours.
The deputy added that after the launch of the steam units of the thermal power plant, the thermal power plant's electricity generation capacity will increase to 1.440 megawatt-hours.
“The launch of the steam units of the thermal power plant will increase the efficiency of the TPP by 50 percent, and saving 799 million cubic meters of fuel (gas) per year,” he noted.
