BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Iran will launch 3,600 gas projects in a span of 10 days, starting from February 1 to February 11, 2024, the deputy minister of oil and the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Majid Chegeni said, Trend reports.
These dates coincide with the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, which is celebrated as a national holiday. The gas projects are part of Iran’s efforts to expand its gas industry and meet the interior and international demand for natural gas.
Chegeni said that the total cost of the gas projects is 230 trillion rials (about $5.67 billion). The projects cover three main areas: gas supply, gas transportation and gas pressure boosting.
He explained that the gas supply projects will provide natural gas to 1,056 villages, 13 cities and 2,518 industrial facilities across the country. The gas supply projects cost 80 trillion rials (about $1.9 billion).
Meanwhile, the gas transportation projects involve the construction of new gas pipelines that will connect different regions of Iran and facilitate the distribution of natural gas.
Chegeni mentioned some of the important gas pipelines that will be launched, such as the Qom-Mohammadiyeh-Parchin pipeline, and the Iranshahr-Chabahar pipeline. The gas transportation projects cost 101 trillion rials (about $2.4 billion).
According to him, the gas pressure boosting projects include the installation of new gas pressure boosting stations, the development of gas storages and the enhancement of the infrastructure facilities in the gas fields. The gas pressure boosting projects cost 49 trillion rials (about $1.17 billion).
Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. The county's gas production capacity is currently more than 1 billion cubic meters per day.
On average, Iran currently produces about 259 billion cubic meters of gas annually and more than 800 million cubic meters daily.
