Azerbaijan to Repay Part of Debt on Energy to Iran

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Aliyev/ Marlen Askarov, the vice-president of share holders of 'Azerenerji' has stated that Azerbaijan will implement returning of electron energy to Iran within a year. Marlen noted that the process may be prolonged at the beginning of 2008.

Presently, Azerbaijan began repaying of debt on electron energy to Iran. The volume of debt is about 400mln of kilowatt-hour.

Iran supplies 10-12mln kilowatt-hour of electron energy to the Azerbaijani Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Azerbaijan receives energy from Iran during winter months and returns the energy in summer months.

In compliance with an agreement once Azerbaijan cannot return the whole volume of energy within a year, the Government has to pay.
