Azerbaijan sees decrease in population's bank deposits

Bank deposits of the Azerbaijani population in foreign currency in the first 4 months of 2021 totaled over 3.89 billion manat ($3.29 billion), which is 5.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

Reportedly, the share of deposits of the population in foreign currency during the specified period made up 45.1 percent of all deposits.

According to the CBA, the volume of the population’s deposits, including funds of individuals engaged in entrepreneurship, in national currency reached 4.74 billion manat ($2.78 billion), increasing by 17.7 percent over the year.

At the same time, the share of the population’s deposits in the national currency made up 54.9 percent of the total volume of deposits of the population, the Central Bank said.

“From January through April 2021, the volume of bank deposits of the population of Azerbaijan, including funds of individuals engaged in individual entrepreneurship, amounted to 8.63 billion manat ($5.07 billion), having grown by 5.6 percent on annual basis,” the report said.

“Deposits of residents and non-residents reach 8.35 billion manat ($4.91 billion) and 279.4 million manat ($164.3 million), respectively. In annual terms, investments of residents increased by 73.3 million manat or $43.1 million (5.8 percent), and non-residents decreased by 177.6 million manat or $104.7 million (0.5 percent).

The total volume of deposits in Azerbaijani banks as of June 2021 approached 24.9 billion manat ($14.6 billion), which is an annual decrease of 5.6 percent.
