The largest DATA-center will be established in Azerbaijan. Its services will be available to the regional countries, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Communications and High Technologies Elmir Velizade said at the third annual international conference "IDC IT Security and Datacenters Transformations-2014" on June 12.

"This project is designed for the future," he said. "The ministry plans to establish the data processing center soon. It will render the services directly to the state agencies."

"The services and technical capabilities of the DATA-center, operating on the basis of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, are regularly expanded and improved," he said. "Nevertheless, they are not enough to develop in accordance with the future plans. That is why we are considering the possibility of creating a new high-level DATA-center. Its resources will be used for internal purposes and cover the needs of other countries."

The "National Strategy for Information Society Development for 2014-2020" was adopted in Azerbaijan. This concept is the basic document that will define the further actions for the next six or seven years.

"Azerbaijan will be able to achieve its goals in accordance with existing plans," Velizade said. "The main objective is two-fold increase in the country's GDP by 2020. ICT sector must be increased threefold to achieve this figure. This must be accompanied by about 12 percent growth of the industry per year."
