Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.7 / Trend /

All frontier posts on the Uzbek border were closed in the southern Kyrgyzstan, KyrTAG reported with reference to the Batken regional administration.

"All the border posts on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek areas are closed, including the border checkpoint "Dostuk" in Aydarkene. Also Uzbek border guards blocked the road to the Kadamjay district," the regional administration said.

It is reported that on Sunday a headquarters was set up in the region to stabilize the situation under the leadership of the Batken region Governor Jenish Razakov.

"Negotiations are underway to free the remaining hostages. One of the Kyrgyz police officers was beaten, he is now at the hospital and his health state is satisfactory," the administration said.

Batken Prosecutor's Office filed two criminal cases on hostage-taking and attacks on a military unit.

As Kyrgyz AKIpress news agency reported earlier, several hundred residents in the Uzbek enclave of Sokh on Sunday attacked a Kyrgyz border guard base.

According to the agency, the incident took place when a large group of residents from the Uzbek village of Khushyar attacked Kyrgyz frontier guards who were erecting supports for electricity transmission lines in Kyrgyzstan's Batken region. The villagers tried to seize firearms from the frontier guards, injuring some in the process, RIA Novosti reported.

"As AKIpress regional correspondent reported, two vehicles were burned and a passing bus stopped and attacked. According to some sources, several passengers were taken hostage," the agency reported.

The Kyrgyz border guard service has declined to comment on the incident.

Local media outlets reported that Kyrgyz border service commanders arrived at the scene to negotiate with the Uzbek side.
