BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 6. Kyrgyzstan’s government debt amounted to 489.4 billion soms ($5.59 billion) as of the end of February 2023, Trend reports via the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan.

The figure decreased by $32.17 million compared to January 2023 and amounted to 52.8 percent of the country’s GDP.

The external debt of Kyrgyzstan in the reporting period totaled 392.8 billion soms ($4.4 billion), which is $26.3 million less than in January 2023.

The internal debt of the country made up 96.5 billion soms ($1.1 billion) in February this year, decreasing by $5.86 million over January 2023.

According to the ministry, multilateral loans of Kyrgyzstan exceeded $2.2 billion and accounted for 50.4 percent of the country’s external debt.

The bilateral soft loans of Kyrgyzstan in February 2023 made up 48.4 percent of the country’s external debt ($2.1 billion), with 39.4 percent of them fell on the debt to the Export-Import Bank of China ($1.7 million).

On March 29, the Ministry of Finance of Kyrgyzstan warned that the internal debt in the structure of the government debt of Kyrgyzstan will increase due to the implementation of the large-scale state programs and development projects funded from internal sources.
