A top Iranian lawmaker has urged Pakistan's government to wipe out terrorist groups amid reports that some Pakistani-trained elements were involved in Iran's deadly terrorist attacks, Press TV reported.
On December 15, at least 33 people, including women and children, were killed and 83 others were wounded after a bomb went off during a mourning ceremony commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (PBUH), grandson of Islam's prophet and of the third Shia Imam in the southern city of Chabahar in Sistan-Baluchestan province, bordering Pakistani.
The Pakistani-based terror group Jundallah, which has carried out several bombings, terrorist attacks and assassination attempts against military and civilian targets in Iran, took responsibility for the bloody attack.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Hossein Ebrahimi admonished Islamabad for its failure to strangle the flow of terrorists, suspected of receiving military training inside Pakistan, across the border.
"It would be better for the government of Pakistan to demonstrate a semblance of authority and power vis-?-vis the terrorists and spare no effort to stop them, because otherwise grave consequences would threaten the country itself , IRNA quoted Ebrahimi as saying on Thursday.
The Iranian lawmaker further expressed dismay over Pakistan's failure to rein in terrorism in its soil, adding that "there are some elements within the Pakistani government that back the terrorists, a weakness that the county has not yet managed to address adequately."
The remarks come as Pakistani officials announced that they would fully cooperate with the Islamic Republic in tracking down the perpetrators of the deadly Chabahar terror attack.
Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Thursday that his country's intelligence services are ready to cooperate with their Iranian counterpart to bring those behind the terrorist move to justice.
In the latest development on Thursday, Iranian Ministry of Intelligence stated that eight more terrorists have been arrested in connection with the bloody attack on innocent people mourning the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in Chabahar.
