In the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), so far, 11,000 tons of dry tea have been produced in Iran, which is 19 percent more compared to the same period of the previous Iranian year, the chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports via Mizan News Agency.

So far, 49,800 tons of tea leaves have been harvested from Iran's tea plantations, Jahansaz said.

He added that 90 percent of the harvest was the first grade tea and the rest 10 percent - second grade tea leaves.

According to forecast, over 120,000 tons of tea leaves will be harvested in the current Iranian year, Jahansaz said.

Iran's tea plantations cover an area of about 25,000 hectares, he noted.

About 180 billion rials (roughly $4.28 million) of beneficial loans with low interest rate have allocated to Iran's tea growers, and 50 billion rials (roughly $1.19 million) - to tea processing factories.
