(dpa) - Myanmar's military government Wednesday condemned plans by Taiwanese authorities to hold a referendum on the island's name and attempts to join the United Nations," the foreign ministry said.
A foreign ministry statement said the ruling junta fully supports mainland China's insistence that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory.
"The government of the Union of Myanmar reiterates its categorical opposition to any move for Taiwan independence' including the attempt to hold the referendum on joining the United Nations," the ministry said.
The pariah state also known as Burma is heavily dependent on China for trade, and for providing it with some diplomatic protection in the United Nations for it's abysmal human rights record.
