97 Km, 48 inch, Iran-Iraq gas pipelineˈs construction is complete, its final testing is underway, and in initial phase it will transfer 5mln cbms of gas to Baghdad generators, managing director of Iranian Gas Development and Engineering Co. said Thursday, IRNA reported.

Elaborating on various phases of the gas pipelineˈs testing, Engineer Ali-Reza Gharibi referred to clearing it, measuring its various sections, and finally testing its leakproof quality by pressurized water injection.

He said that the clearing of the 97 kilometer pipeline is already completed and after the completion of the other two phases it will be put to use.

The managing director of Iranian Gas Development and Engineering Company said that after the completion of this 97 kilometer pipeline its will be looped with the other existing pipelines in a short while and then the exports of the Iranian gas to Iraq will begin.

The Iran-Iraq gas pipeline begins in Charmaleh district of Iranˈs Ilam province and continues all the way to Naftshahr on Iran-Iraq border.

After completion the pipeline will be initially capable of exporting five million cubic meter of natural gas to Iraq per day in the initial phase.

During the first three years this pipeline will export from 4 to 7 million cubic meter of gas per day to Iraq, in the next two years the gas exports to Iraq will increase to 15 million cbms per day and within the following three years the amount of Iranˈs daily gas exports to Iraq will increase to 25 million cubic meters per day.

According to the Oil Ministryˈs SHANA news agency the completion of Bisotoun-Dehcalan and Bisotoun-Naftshahr pipelines play important roles in increasing the Iran-Iraq gas exports and they are both under construction now.

The same report indicates that upon completion of the countryˈs 6th six hundred kilometer pipeline in the year 2015 that will connect Ahwaz in Iranˈs southwest Khuzestan province and Dehcalan in northwest Iran the countryˈs gas exports to Iraq will be drastically increased.
