Bashar al-Assad cannot remain in power, TRT Haber TV channel quotes Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying in the conference of the Friends of Syria.
He said any regime using military force against its people cannot stay in power. Erdogan called on all countries to take concrete steps against al-Assad regime.
A conference of the Friends of Syrian Group is underway in Turkey.
Anti-government protests which began in mid-March 2011 have persisted in Syria for almost a year. Daily reports are being received about the deaths of people, both civilians and the security forces. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims in the country exceeds 9000 people.
The Syrian authorities accuse armed militants of the clashes saying they receive assistance from neighbouring countries.
