Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 11 / Trend T. Hajiyev /
Tajik Emergency Situations Ministry employees will hold exercises in Azerbaijan, head of the Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Nazim Ismayilov said today at a press conference.
"The ministry's representatives will visit Azerbaijan to study ANAMA's experience with clearing territories from mines," Ismayilov said.
He also noted the possibility of organizing courses for representatives from Georgia.
"Georgia does not have this kind of experience," he said. "A tender has been announced to hold exercises to create this structure. The tender will be attended by companies from different countries. The probability of a victory is 70 percent. Sixty-six people arrived in Azerbaijan from Georgia and courses will be organized at the Goy-Gol training base."
Ismayilov also spoke about the agency's activities in Afghanistan. According to the ANAMA head, Afghanistan faces the highest threat of mines.
"Every year, this country spends $100-150 million for operations to clean its territory from mines," he said. "Azerbaijan helps the Afghan government in this sphere. We also assist in education on mine threat issues. ANAMA jointly with the Education Ministry has prepared a translation of books and sent 10,000 copies to this country. The Afghan government asked for an additional 20,000 copies. We will inform the Azerbaijani government about this and we hope that we will get a positive response."
