Those interfering with the work of election commissions during the upcoming presidential election may be brought to responsibility under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, the First Deputy Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Rustam Usubov said in his speech during a specialized course on electoral law for the chairmen of district election commissions at the Central Election Commission.
In connection with the results of the 2005 parliamentary elections, the General Prosecutor has received 365 complaints, of which 102 were from the Central Election Commission (CEC), 35 - from the District Election Commissions (DECs), four - from the block of political parties, 31 - from law enforcement agencies and 193 - from citizens, Usubov said.
Criminal proceedings were initiated on 20 DECs, the first deputy prosecutor general said. Alongside, the results were annulled from ten DECs. The CEC annulled results from the two DECs, and the Constitutional Court - from the six DECs.
Usubov noted that during the 2008 presidential elections, the Attorney General did not receive any complaints, while 89 complaints were received during the 2010 parliamentary elections. "Of these appeals, 83 were directed to the CEC and DECs, five were commented on, criminal case was initiated on one complaint, which was due to interference in the work of election commissions by Vidadi Iskenderov registered as a candidate from the Goychay-Aghdash District Election Commission (DECs) № 89," Usubov added.
The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled to be held in Autumn.
