The book "Olympic movement in Azerbaijan: constantly at a high level", created under the ideological direction of head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, actual state councilor, active member of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Ramiz Mehdiyev, has been presented in Baku.
The book was published in two volumes under the editorship of Professor Ali Hasanov and cooperation between editors of newspaper Azerbaijan and the National Olympic Committee of the country.
The book is dedicated to the memory of architect of modern Azerbaijan, national leader Heydar Aliyev, and timed to the 20th anniversary of establishing the National Olympic Committee and the 15th anniversary of developing the Olympic movement in the country.
"Today the sport is very popular in Azerbaijan," Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said at a presentation. "Around 40 Olympic complexes and several special sports facilities for various kinds of sports have been built in Azerbaijan. This allows holding prestigious international competitions in the country. Azerbaijan has become one of European sports centers."
He added that it is important to include these achievements in the annals of history. From this point of view, the book is of particular importance.
This is an excellent book to study the history of Azerbaijani sport, Rahimov said.
Deputy Executive Secretary of New Azerbaijan Party, MP Mubariz Gurbanli said that Azerbaijan has achieved great success in the sport during the years of independence.
Azerbaijan's every victory is a victory over the enemy, Gurbanli said.
"This book reflects national leader Heydar Aliyev's order, aimed at developing the sport and his work conducted in this area," he said. "The book will be a great source of information about the history of our sport."
He added that the development of sports in Azerbaijan is always in the government's spotlight.
The construction of numerous sports complexes is a bright example. Sports development is the president's policy and this policy will be continued.
According to the book, around 36 Olympic complexes have been built in the country. Azerbaijan became known as a sport country, conducting various international sports events.
The two-volume book contains the materials about the work conducted by the National Leader to develop the Olympic movement in Azerbaijan, as well as the facts about the achievements of the country's sportsmen at the Olympic Games, the orders adopted in the sphere of sports.
