Iran intends to buy German high-speed magnetic-levitated trains

An Iranian delegation, consisting of public and private representatives, will visit Germany to implement constructing of the Tehran - Mashad high-speed magnetic-levitated trains in the nearest future, Ali Kuhestanian, Permanent Representative on Iranian Foreign Investment was quoted by Mehr News, as saying.

Iran and China will launch technical talks on constructing the Tehran - Mashad high-speed railway in the nearest future, Abdol Ali Saheb-Mohammadi, the head of Iranian Railways was earlier quoted by Irna as saying.

Mohammadi said that the Express trains Tehran - Mashad operate at speeds up to 350 kilometers per hour. The first phase of the project involves constructing of Tehran - Mashad high-speed railroad, the second stage - Tehran - Gom - Isfahan.

Mohammadi said that the project will be implemented within four years by reaching an agreement with China.

Earlier, Iran started constructing the first part of Chabahar - Zahedan - Meshed railway. The length of the Chabahar - Zahedan railway will hit 570 kilometers.

The total length of Chabahar - Zahedan - Mashhad railway will hit 1,350 kilometers.

The project includes constructing of 11 kilometers of bridges, 12 kilometers of tunnels with a total cost of 3 billion euros. It will be realized by selling the governmental factories.

The design speed for passenger trains is 160 km per hour, for freight trains - 120 km per hour.

The maximum term of traffic on the Zahedan-Mashhad railway is 13 hours.

Iranian road and transportation minister Hamid Behbahani said that the ministry intends to draw $25 billion of investment in the rail sector. All provinces must be connected to the rail network in terms of the country's Vision-2025. The agenda envisages constructing 16,000 kilometers of new railway for the next 15 years. Prior to the Islamic Revolution, Iran had about 4,500km of railway. About 5,000km of new lines have been built for the last 30 years.
