The export of hen's eggs from Turkey increased by 83 per cent in 2011 compared to 2010, the Turkish Statistics Institute reported on Wednesday.

The country's income from the egg export amounted to $285.673 million in 2011, compared to $156 million in 2010.

Export for the period primarily went to 17 countries and two free economic zones. Among major importers of hen's eggs are Iraq with $212 million, Iran with $42.9 million and Azerbaijan with $11.5 million. Azerbaijan's imported hen's eggs were $8.5 million in 2010.

According to the report of Azerbaijan's the State Statistics committee, 916.5 million eggs were produced in the country between January-November 2011 which is 15.3 per cent less compared to January-November 2010. Azerbaijan plans to start exporting breeding eggs to neighbouring countries this year.

As Shirzad Abdullayev, executive director of the National Entrepreneurship Support Fund (NFES) under the Ministry of Economic Development said earlier the 2009 statistics show that the country needs 60 million breeding eggs, 40-45 per cent of which are provided by local producers and the rest imported.

"From 2012 we will create an opportunity to export production apart from meeting domestic demand by means of an existing potential, that is 60 million eggs," he said. In this regard the NFES finances projects to create poultry farms in the country.
