Turkey increases gold production

In 2012, Turkey's gold production increased up to 29.5 tons compared to 25 tons in 2011, Turkish Gold Miners Association's website reports on Monday.

Cost of gold produced in 2012 amounted to $1.7 billion.

The report says that a total of 136 tons of gold has been produced since the start of gold production in Turkey in 2001 until 2012. In 2001, the figure was 1.4 tons.

Last year, Turkey imported about 150 tons of gold worth $8 billion. Today there are nine gold-mining companies in Turkey, the report says.

The largest gold deposits in Turkey are Bergama deposit in Izmir, Salihli deposit in Manis and Kishladag in Usak province.

Turkey plans to increase gold production up to 35 tons in 2013. The annual demand for gold in the country is 150-250 tons.
