Construction of the Uzbek-American joint venture, Agro-Complex Karakalpakstan, was launched in the Tahtakupyr district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan.
The project worth $3 million was approved by the State Committee of the Republic of Karakalpakstan for Architecture and Construction. Foreign investments worth $700,000 will be attracted to implement the project.
It is planned to import from abroad 700 pedigree sheep in the first stage of the project, and 2,000 - in the second.
The agro-complex will meet the needs of the residents of the region in fruit and vegetable products, as well as allow organizing the production of mixed fodder.
The country’s horticulture sector is an especially important source of all-season employment in rural areas and provides a significant number of jobs for women. Moreover, horticultural crops generate significantly higher revenues for farmers than wheat and cotton. Fruit and vegetable production accounts for as much as 50 percent of the value of crop output and over 35 percent of agriculture export value.
In 2016, agriculture accounted for 17 percent of gross domestic product, 15 percent of export revenues, and over one-third of employment.
Growth in agricultural production in 2017 amounted to 1.9 percent compared to 2016.
