The Chamber of Auditors of Azerbaijan proposes to develop a roadmap to reduce the share of the shadow economy in the country, the chamber's chairman, Vahid Novruzov, told Trend.

"The roadmap to improve transparency should envisage creation of such conditions that everyone is interested in conducting open activities and no one tries to hide activities, and also no one is interested in hiding or delaying reports," Novruzov said.

He mentioned that at the meeting dedicated to the socio-economic development for the first nine months of the year, Azerbaijan's president also addressed the issue of reducing the shadow economy.

"Apparently, the importance of reducing the shadow economy is noted at the highest level, and we, for our part, have added this issue to the proposals for cooperation with the Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan. In addition, this issue is in our work plan for 2019," Novruzov said.

In addition, he also noted that the Chamber has prepared methods for auditing the export-import operations.

"We have discussed this issue with the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, and we will recommend them to use the methods related to increasing transparency in the export-import operations," Novruzov added.

Speaking about the problems in the audit sector of Azerbaijan, Novruzov said due to the fact that some companies resort to the services of unscrupulous auditors, an unfair competition is formed in the market and dumping of prices occurs for the audit services.

"As a result, in most cases we observe poor-quality audit reports. In the plan for 2019, taking into account the international experience, we added special topics that cover application of sanctions against poor-quality audit reporting," Novruzov said.
