Georgian farmers receive significant funds as part of state support program

As part of the state program to support the sale of non-standard apples in Georgia, farmers received over 11 million lari (about $3.5 million), Trend reports via the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.

The state program "Support for the sale of non-standard apples" has ended.

Fruit processing enterprises participating in the state program accepted up to 50,000 tons of non-standard apples from farmers.

The size of the state subsidy during the acceptance of the products was 10 tetri (3.07 cents) per 1 kg of non-standard apples. All fruit processing enterprises could join the program, which bought 1 kg of non-standard apples from farmers for less than 22 tetri (6.75 cents).

Some 14 fruit processing enterprises in the regions of Shida Kartli, Kakheti, and Samtskhe-Javakheti took part in the subsidy program.

From August 1 to December 13, 2020, 6,739 tons of apples worth $2.9 million were exported from Georgia.

The export volume of apples for this period is 14 times higher than the export volume for the same period of 2019, and the export value increased by $2.5 million.

According to the agency, the export of apples this year was mainly carried out in the Russian Federation in the amount of 6,456 tons. In addition to the Russian Federation, exports were also carried out to Kazakhstan, Hungary, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
