Exports of Iran’s handmade carpets up

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28

The exports of Iran’s handmade carpets increased by 84.6 percent in terms of value and 275 percent in terms of volume during the first two months of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through May 21, 2021), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director of the National Carpet Center of Iran Farahnaz Rafe said, Trend reports citing the center’s website.

The director stressed that Iran exported 367 tons of handmade carpets worth $4.8 million within the mentioned period. While in the same period last Iranian year, Iran had exported 97.8 tons of carpets worth $2.6 million.

Rafe added that Japan and Germany rank first and second place among the 33 countries importing handmade carpets from Iran.

“About 50 percent of Iran's carpets were exported through Imam Khomeini International Airport, 46 percent through Mehrabad Airport, and the rest through other customs offices,” he said.

Reportedly, there are currently 10,100 enterprises operating in Iran on the weaving of handmade carpets.
