( Worldcarfans ) - The new Volvo V70 and S80 made their debuts at the previous Geneva Motor Show and have not made it to dealerships yet, but Volvo deems it necessary to add new engines to the line-up. Smaller engines that is, namely a 2 liter petrol and 2 liter diesel is added to the engine range.

Volvo claims that customers are looking for the more fuel efficient and economically friendly engines rather than the more powerful but gas-guzzling units. The 2.0 liter 4 cylinder petrol engine puts out 145 hp (107 kW) with 185 Nm torque and uses 8.3 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers in the V70 and 8.1 liters per 100 km in the S80.

The four-cylinder 2.0 liter diesel produces 136 hp (100 kW) with 320 Nm torque and is even more fuel friendly with its estimated 6.0 liter and 5.9 liter per 100 kilometers consumption for respectively the V70 and S80.

"More and more buyers focus on fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. It is highly important for us to give them more choices." said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President Brand, Business and Product Strategy at Volvo Cars.
