Turkmenistan wants to deliver its energy resources to world markets in different directions: president

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, August 29 / Trend , G.Hasanov /

Important components of the energy policy of Turkmenistan is to ensure global energy security and export Turkmen energy resources to world markets in different directions, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov said, speaking on the eve of an investment forum in Antalya (Turkey).

An official Turkmen source reports that the practical realization of these tasks is designed to help establish an inter-departmental working committee on energy diplomacy of Turkmenistan in April this year.

The Head of State said that Turkmenistan occupies a prominent place in the global energy system, cooperating with all interested countries. "Formation of multi-vector export routes of Turkmen energy resources has a single purpose - to promote national, regional and world development, support world peace and security," he said.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy market of the Caspian region, which is associated with several projects on construction of new pipelines. This list includes the Caspian pipeline to Russia via Kazakhstan, trans-Afghan to Pakistan and India. The question of Turkmenistan's participation in the Nabucco project, which aims to deliver energy resources to Europe through the Caucasus, remains undecided.

In December, Turkmenistan-Iran gas pipeline, starting from the country's largest gas field of Dovletabat, will be put into operation. Together with the capacity of existing Korpeje-Gurtgui pipeline, it will give an opportunity to deliver 14 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to the neighboring state, and in the future, - up to 20 billion cubic meters.

In addition, in the end of this year, it is scheduled to put another transnational pipeline into operation - gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China. In accordance with long-term agreements, annually 40 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be delivered to China for 30 years.

Using the existing pipeline Central Asia-Center through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Russia, which has traditionally imported Turkmen gas, now negotiates to revise the long-term contract. Experts consider that this issue will be key topic of discussions during the visit of President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to Turkmenistan planned for mid September.
