The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will begin the process of oil transportation via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline, scheduled for September, a source said on Aug. 31.

The pumping for this month will begin tomorrow by 11:00 [Baku time]," the source said.

Under the schedule of the planned technical work, the transportation of the Azerbaijani oil via the northern oil pipeline will be halted one time per 8 hours, the source said. It is planned to temporarily halt the transportation on Sept. 11.

"In accordance with the planned volume, oil pumping, scheduled for September, will finish at 19:00 on Sept. 17," said the source.

Oil pumping scheduled for August finished on Aug. 28.

In September, it is planned to pump 140,000 tons of the Azerbaijani oil via the pipeline. According to the forecast, the pipeline will transport 140,000 tons of oil in September, 248,000 in October, 240,000 tons in November, and 140,000 tons in December.

SOCAR ships own oil via the Novorossiysk port. In January-July, around 1.5 million tons of oil was supplied by this pipeline compared to over 782,000 tons in the same period of 2008. As many as 247,000 tons of oil was delivered via this route in July compared to roughly 83,700 tons in the same period of 2008.

Totally, it is planned to pump 2.5 million tons of oil via this route in 2009 as compared to 1.3 million tons in 2008.

Today, via the Baku - Novorossiysk oil pipeline, Azerbaijan receives (at the port of Novorossiysk) Urals brand oil because of mixing with other oil producers.

The operator of the Baku-Novorossiysk was the Azerbaijan International Operating Company until the end of 2007. The SOCAR began to operate the pipeline since 2007.
