Turkey to buy 6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas this year

According to the forecasts, Turkey will buy 6.2 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the condensate field Shah Deniz in Azerbaijan's sector of the Caspian Sea this year, a source on the oil and gas market said.

"It is predicted that roughly 6.2 billion cubic meters of gas will be delivered to Turkey this year," a source said.

At present, Turkey supplies about 18 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The rest part of the gas from the field will be delivered to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
According to the contract, Turkey must receive 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas from the first stage of the Shah Deniz field annually (total reserves are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters).
The contract to develop the offshore Shah Deniz field was signed June 4, 1996. Participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) - 25.5 percent, Statoil - 25.5 percent, NICO - 10 percent, Total - 10 percent, LukAgip - 10 percent, TPAO - 9 percent, SOCAR-10 percent.
