BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 13. Iran could increase electricity imports from Azerbaijan in summer to 300 megawatt-hours daily in the first stage, with the establishment of the North-South Electric Corridor between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia, Spokesman for the Iranian Energy Ministry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi told Trend.

The spokesman noted that at present, Iran imports about 100 megawatt-hours of electricity daily from Azerbaijan during the summer months.

Rajabi Mashhadi added that in connection with the establishment of the North-South Electric Corridor, the Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers Company has completed certain research operations. Currently, the company is carrying out research on the economic aspects of the project.

“Within the meeting of the energy ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia in Qatar on February 22, 2022, discussions were conducted on the connection of the electricity network of the three countries to one another. Then, on February 28, 2022, discussions continued between the deputy energy ministers of the three countries and a decision was made to speed up work on the project,” he said.
