Volume of state social spending in Azerbaijan increases

At the end of 2019, the number of families receiving targeted state social assistance amounted to 71,100 (297,000 people), which is 29,300 families, or 69 percent more than in 2018, Trend reports referring to a report on the activity of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in 2019.

The limit of the criterion of need reached 143 manat ($84) while the average monthly amount of targeted state social assistance for one family reached 207.6 manat ($122.1) at the end of 2019.

Some 795.4 million manat ($467.9 million) was allocated for social benefits and scholarships in 2019. During the reporting period, a total of 240,200 recipients of various categories were determined and scholarships were paid.

Each of 370 participants in World War II was provided with a lump sum payment worth 1,000 manat ($588). Each of the family members and other close relatives of 8,570 dead soldiers was provided with 500 manat ($294).

Some 98 percent of 18,000 heirs of 12,000 martyrs have been provided with lump-sum payments in the total amount of 11,000 manat ($6,470). The work is underway to determine and provide about 300 heirs with payments.

The families of martyrs and people with disabilities as a result of the Karabakh war, as well as visually impaired people, were provided with 934 apartments or individual houses in 2019, which is by 308 apartments more than in 2018.

Some 196.4 million manat ($115.5 million) was allocated from the state budget and 200 million manat ($117 million) - from the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan to solve housing and social problems of internally displaced people in 2019.

The internally displaced people were exempted from tuition fees and 18.3 million manat ($10.8 million) were allocated from the state budget for these purposes in 2019.

During the year, internally displaced people moved to 300 apartments in residential complexes of the Umid-2 settlement of the Garadagh district of Baku, 1,001 apartments in residential complexes in the Absheron region and 1,005 apartments in residential complexes in Sumgait city.

Some 304.9 million manat ($179 million) was transferred to pay lump-sum benefits to internally displaced people in 2019.

In the reporting year, the amount of funds per one internally displaced person averaged 956 manat ($562).
