BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 19

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 6.5 million bank checks worth about 2.69 quadrillion rials (about $64.2 billion) were exchanged in Iran in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 22, 2021 through January 20, 2022), Trend reports via the report of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI).

According to the statistics, this is an increase of 4.4 percent in value and 0.2 percent in number, compared to the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 22 through December 21, 2021).

"The checks exchanged in the 10th month were mainly registered in Iran’s Tehran Province (31.6 percent in number, 51.3 percent in value), Isfahan Province (10.7 percent in number,7.1 percent in terms of value), Razavi Khorasan Province (7.5 percent in number, 5.2 percent in value)," the statistics said.

According to the statistics, about 6 million checks worth 2.39 quadrillion rials (about $56.9 billion) were received in Iran in the 10th month. This is an increase of 2.8 percent in value, while a decrease of 0.1 percent in number, compared to the 9th month.

The CBI noted that over 553,000 checks worth about 305 trillion rials (about $7.26 billion) bounced in the 10th month.

The bounced checks increased by 19.6 percent in value, and 1.6 percent in number, compared to the 9th month.

The reason for the bounce of checks was the lack of available funds. Thus, 534,000 checks worth 270 trillion rials (about $6.43 billion) bounced for these reasons in the 10th month.

"The checks 88.4 percent in value and 96.6 in number were bounced due to lack of available funds or deficit," the statistics said.
