Turkey reveals 5M2021 data on cargo shipment via local ports

Over 156.6 million tons of goods were transshipped through the Turkish ports from January through May 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, 12.8 million tons of cargo were handled by ships flying the Turkish flag, and 143.7 million tons - by ships flying the flags of other countries.

“At the same time, over 30.9 million tons of cargo was shipped in transit via Turkish ports,” the ministry noted.

In the first 5 months of 2021, over 30.9 million tons of cargo were handled in transit via Turkish ports.

“In May 2021, a total of 31.6 million tons of goods were shipped via the ports of Turkey. In this month, the volume of cargo transportation by ships flying the Turkish flag through domestic ports amounted to 3.03 million tons, and by ships flying the flags of other countries – 28.6 million tons,” the ministry said.

According to the ministry, 6.51 million tons of transit cargo were handled via the ports of Turkey in May 2021.
