Cargo transportation by road increases in Azerbaijan in 4M2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 22. Cargo transportation by road amounted to 39.2 million tons, or 55 percent of the total volume of cargo transportation from January through April 2023 in Azerbaijan, the State Statistics Committee (SSC) of Azerbaijan told Trend.

According to the SSC, cargo transportation by road increased by 3.2 percent compared to the period from January through April 2022.

Meanwhile, cargo transportation by road in the private sector increased by 4.1 percent. The private sector accounted for 76.2 percent of all cargo transportation by road during this period.

Passenger transportation by road amounted to 504.1 million people from January through April, which is 20 percent more in comparison with the same period last year. A total of 95.5 percent of passengers were transported by buses during this period, and 4.5 percent by taxis and other private carriers.

Moreover, as many as 71.7 million people used the services of the Baku Metro (an increase of 12.9 percent).

Cargo transportation by all means of transport amounted to 71.2 million tons from January through April 2023 in Azerbaijan, which is 5.9 percent higher compared to the same period in 2022. Passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 578.6 million people during the reporting period, which is 19.2 percent higher in comparison with the same period in 2022.
